One variable

A linear equation of one variable has the form

\[\begin{equation*}
  y = ax + b
\end{equation*}
\]
where\(a \neq 0\)is the slope
\(b\)is the \(y\)-intercept,

and its solution is

\[\begin{equation*}
  x = -\frac{b}{a}.
\end{equation*}
