How to compare the working tree with some commit

  1. Open magit-status with C-x p m.
  2. If the commit is not in sight, type ll to see the log.
  3. Move the point over commit.
  4. Type d for magit-diff and r for range.
  5. Retrieve the commit hash from future history by typing M-n twice.
  6. Type RET to confirm.
